The Honor Way: Self-Check

Emma Breck      HonorHealth leadership update,  HonorHealth Update

Even routine clinical tasks carry hidden risks, especially when navigating complex care demands, administrative requirements or high-velocity environments.

HonorHealth is introducing The Honor Way initiative, focusing first on Self-Check. This high-reliability habit provides a brief, intentional pause to reset clinical focus and mitigate cognitive errors before they reach a patient.

The Self-Check framework

Before finalizing a plan, signing an order or initiating a procedure, take a few seconds to evaluate three critical elements:

  • Me: Am I rushed, distracted, fatigued or overconfident?
  • The task: Is this routine or does it deviate from standard practice?
  • The environment: What active distractions or operational risks are present right now?
