On Saturday, April 25, the Women Physicians Leadership Council (WPLC) welcomed physicians, APPs and colleagues to its annual spring fundraiser brunch, The Happiness Brunch.

The annual brunch is a chance to connect with colleagues, build professional networks and invest in the future of women in medicine at HonorHealth. Proceeds directly support education and leadership programs, lactation suite updates and executive coaching opportunities for women physicians, fellows, residents and students.

The science of happiness comes to HonorHealth

The WPLC hosted Laurie Santos, Yale University’s Chandrika and Ranjan Tandon, professor of psychology. Dr. Santos created Yale’s most popular course in its more than 300-year history, “Psychology and the Good Life.” She’s become a global voice on the science of well-being, reaching millions of learners through her free Coursera course, “The Science of Well-Being.”

Her presentation, “The Science of Happiness: Evidence-Based Practices to Feel Better,” offered scientifically validated strategies physicians and APPs can put to work immediately. These include shifting thought patterns, regulating emotions and building habits that support well-being within the unique demands of medical practice. Attendees left with concrete tools to identify common misconceptions about happiness, recognize the psychological biases that lead people to pursue the wrong things, and practice five behavioral and mindset strategies backed by psychology research.

For those who could not attend, or for those who want to revisit the material, the WPLC Happiness Brunch audio and transcript are available (password: wplcsantos). You can also view and download the WPLC Happiness Brunch event photos directly from the online gallery.
