Supporting patients beyond the clinic through Desert Mission

  Emma Breck      HonorHealth Update

HonorHealth Desert Mission is facing a critical summer volunteer shortage, and we’d love your help.

Summer is one of the busiest times of year for the Food Bank. As many seasonal volunteers head out of the Valley, more local families are turning to HonorHealth Desert Mission for support.

That’s where you come in.

Volunteers are needed to help sort and pack food so we can continue serving our community.

Donating your time to Desert Mission offers you firsthand insight into the social drivers of health that directly impact clinical outcomes, patient adherence and hospital readmissions. Understanding the challenges patients face outside a clinical setting helps teams bridge the gap between discharge planning and community-based support.

Desert Mission removes barriers to health through four primary programs:

  • Adult Day Health Care
  • Food Bank
  • Lincoln Learning Center
  • Living Well

How to get involved

Physicians and APPs can volunteer individually or coordinate team-building opportunities for their departments or clinics. Friends, families and teenagers are also welcome; individuals must be at least 16 years old, or 14 if accompanied by an adult.

Desert Mission partners with select HonorHealth residency programs to integrate volunteer experiences into clinical rotations. To explore opportunities for a specific program, contact Krystina Toscas at ktoscas@honorhealth.com.
