Your two-step protection plan: Flu vaccine and mask fit-test

  Emma Breck      HonorHealth Update

Respiratory virus season is here. These are the two most important steps you can take to protect each other.

Step one: Get a jump start on your flu shot plan

  • HonorHealth requires all team members, physicians, clinicians and volunteers to receive an annual flu vaccine.
  • Employee Health will begin offering flu shots on Monday, Sept. 29.
  • Vaccines will also be available at all HonorHealth medical center locations and are free of charge for team members.
  • Flu shot exemptions for medical and religious reasons are available and must be renewed annually.
  • Team members with approved exemptions must wear a surgical mask in all patient areas once Tier 1 restrictions are activated by Infection Prevention.
  • If you get your flu vaccine from an outside provider, email your documentation to [email protected].

Step two: Ensure your respirator and mask fit-test is up to date

All patient-facing team members must wear an ASTM-rated HonorHealth-supplied mask. Cloth masks are not acceptable.

Physicians and APPs, including members of the HonorHealth Medical Staff, who are required to wear these masks will be contacted by the HonorHealth Employee Health Department to complete annual fit testing or provide an attestation of mask fit. This testing or attestation is a regulatory requirement, so it’s extremely important that all providers complete the process promptly.

For your mask fitting:

  • Schedule your appointment via the Employee Health Portal on HonorHub.
  • Prior to your appointment, fill out your OSHA questionnaire via the Employee Health Portal.
  • If you need a fit for a full or half mask respirator:
    • Schedule by calling Employee Health at 480-323-1880.
    • Currently, this type of mask fitting is only done at HonorHealth John C. Lincoln Medical Center.

Visit the Employee Health page on HonorHub for all the details and create your plan to stick it to the flu this fall.
