Transforming the APP experience: New leadership model announced
By Andrew Sheppard, FNP, senior director of advanced practice providers
As part of our strategic goal to become the health system employer of choice for APPs across all clinical specialties, HonorHealth is implementing a new advanced practice provider (APP) leadership structure.
What’s new
APPs will now report to dedicated APP leaders in the network human resources database. APP leader job descriptions have been developed, and the structure is being rolled out across several specialties. By 2026, more than 90% of APPs are expected to report to one of 19 APP leaders network-wide.
This initiative supports our balanced scorecard objective of improving the APP experience and focuses on five key areas:
- Operational support: Increasing support for APP operations and improving visibility into clinical practices.
- Innovation and efficiency: Identifying opportunities in how APPs provide services to enhance quality of care, patient experience and outcomes.
- Practice alignment: Standardizing APP scope of practice within specialties to ensure equity across the network.
- Culture and community: Enhancing collaboration and mentorship opportunities within our growing APP workforce.
- Professional development: Supporting APP leadership growth to increase job satisfaction and well-being.
Important note
This structure is designed to complement and enhance existing physician-APP working relationships, not replace them. The goal is to add value to partnerships that are already successful.
We will work directly with APPs on position details as roles are posted. This change is part of our continued focus on creating a better experience for APPs across the network.
