Transfers and EMTALA
The HonorHealth Transfer Center is seeing an uptick of providers accepting transfers or admissions outside the process of using the Transfer Center. Going outside the formal process for accepting transfers or admissions creates issues internally and is also a risk from an EMTALA standpoint when it comes to ED situations. For example: A physician takes a private call from another doctor or hospital, and then the physician promises to see the patient at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, but when the HonorHealth Transfer Center is made aware of this request, there is no bed availability.
Transferring the care of a patient involves a lot of of moving parts. At HonorHealth, we aim to simplify this process to help ease the way of our physicians so they can focus on providing the highest quality care to our patients. That’s why we have one dedicated number for all six of our medical centers and service lines: 480-323-SEND (7363). The HonorHealth Transfer Center team consists of registered nurses and coordinators who are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to coordinate direct admissions, as well as inbound, outbound and interfacility transfers.
