Maternity services consolidation effective Friday, June 30
As we announced in April, HonorHealth has made the decision to consolidate our maternity services in Scottsdale to HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center. This change is effective at 3 p.m. Friday, June 30, after which obstetrical services will no longer be offered at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center.
Important things to know about this transition:
- HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center will continue to:
- Provide gynecologic services
- Staff obstetrics and gynecology on-call physicians to support our Level I Trauma Center
- If a pregnant patient presents to the Emergency Department at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, we will follow the procedures we have in place for this same situation at our other facilities that do not offer obstetrical services.
- We have capacity at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center to accommodate the anticipated volume shift, with room for expansion, if needed.
- This transition will provide our maternity patients broader services at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, including high-risk obstetrics, in-house OB hospitalists, more robust post-delivery resources and a Level III NICU, which offers advanced care for newborns of any gestational age.
This decision was made to address declining delivery volumes and a substantial reduction in the number of community providers providing obstetrical services at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, as well as the rising costs of staffing necessary specialists 24/7. As part of this transition, we have also been committed to finding job opportunities within the HonorHealth network for our impacted team members.
