Our Pharmacy Department continues to monitor and manage nationwide drug shortages. Below are key updates and strategies to support safe, effective patient care.

Acute care pharmacy drug supply updates

Medication Current Status Mitigation Strategy
Meperidine (injectable)
  • Product unavailable; reliable resupply not expected until the end of the year.
  • Network supply likely to be exhausted despite conservation efforts.
  • Consider non-pharmacological interventions first.

  • Consider alternative therapies.
  • Starting Sept. 30: Pharmacy will centralize remaining stock; Epic alternative screen updated to prevent continued orders.
Lorazepam (injectable)
  • Intermittent availability due to manufacturing delays.
  • Epic alternative screen active; recommends oral lorazepam tablets.
Dronabinol (oral capsules)
  • Unavailable; next release TBD.
  • Epic alternative screen active; recommends megestrol suspension and prevents continued orders.
Bicillin L-A (penicillin G benzathine, injectable)
  • Intermittent availability; unable to meet demand due to manufacturing delays.
  • Epic alternative screen active; allows continued use only for pregnant patients and infants per CDC guidelines.
