Explorers Club needs physician presenters!
HonorHealth has two types of Explorers Clubs for high school students to expose those interested in a career in healthcare to various hands-on events and learning opportunities:
- Medical Explorers Club is offered at HonorHealth Scottsdale Thompson Peak, Deer Valley and John C. Lincoln medical centers and focuses on professions across the healthcare spectrum.
- Nursing Explorers Club at the HonorHealth Center of Clinical Excellence focuses on diverse careers within the nursing profession.
If you are a physician or provider interested in sharing your passion for medicine with our next generation, please reach out to Melissa Mahon, volunteer relations specialist at [email protected].
Here’s an example of a recent presentation from Rory Murphy, MD, neurosurgeon and independent member of the HonorHealth Medical Staff:
On Thursday, Feb. 29, Dr. Murphy gave the high school students from all four of our Explorers Clubs an overview of different procedures and operations he performs. He brought neurosurgery to life by showing the students how to use drills and tools that he uses in the OR. The students loved the chance to try out these tools for themselves. Lastly, Dr. Murphy took the students through a sheep brain dissection to teach the anatomy of the human brain. Thank you, Dr. Murphy, for inspiring the next generation of neuroscientists and healthcare heroes!
