Epic updates, helpful feedback and upcoming training sessions

The next upgrade for Epic will occur in November of this year. The IT teams are evaluating any and all optional features to ensure the smoothest upgrade experience for all of us who use Epic. This will also be another step toward Epic Hyperdrive (see the last newsletter for more information), which will help improve the usability of Epic for everyone.

As we become more familiar with the 21st Century Cures Act, we are realizing that some of our practices may need to be changed. Patients will have access to lab and radiology results at the same time as providers, so additional or different discussions will need to occur. Also, any signed notes while a patient is in the hospital will need to be released to the patient immediately and it cannot be held until discharge as we used to do.

There are current changes to COVID-19 status, monkeypox testing and evaluation status, as well as C-diff testing that will be implemented this month. The deterioration index will be going live at all campuses this month as well. See previous newsletters or reach out to the informatics team for more information.

We hear you – the BPA feedback is reviewed twice a month and is taken into consideration if an alert is not working correctly. We will do our best to reach back out to people as much as possible. Please continue providing this valuable feedback.

Coming soon: Transition from Webex to Teams and Zoom

Microsoft Teams is now our primary team collaboration tool. Teams offers:

  • Video conferencing, meetings and chat with team members and customers
  • File sharing, tasks and polling
  • Data encryption for meetings, chats, calls and files

Here are some tips and tools for using Teams.

We will also be offering Zoom as a secondary tool for video conferencing. Zoom will be replacing Webex for team members who fit the following criteria:

  • Role is executive assistant to a senior leader
  • Regularly host meetings with more than 50 participants
  • Regularly host meetings with multiple external (non-HonorHealth) entities

We are in the process of a phased transition from Webex to Zoom, working directly with departments that currently have active users on Webex. If you are a current Webex licensed user, expect additional communication over the next month regarding your transition to Teams and/or Zoom.
