Epic Connect: Important training updates for physicians

Emma Breck      Epic and technology,  HonorHealth Update

As our Epic Connect implementation progresses, we want to ensure all physicians are prepared and fully trained on the new system. Here’s what you need to know:

Key deadlines and training requirements

All physicians must complete required HealthStream eLearning modules and video assignments, which will be available in your HealthStream account or via email starting on Monday, Nov. 11.

To find your assignments after you’ve logged into HealthStream, navigate to the To Do List as shown below.

Important completion deadlines are:

  • Dec. 4: Florence and East Mesa EC
  • Dec. 15: Mountain Vista (MVMC) and Tempe

Please note: All components of each course, including the assignments and surveys, must be completed for the system to recognize course completion. Incomplete training will result in Epic account deactivation until requirements are met. Once training has been completed and verified by the training team, accounts will be reactivated.

Learning lab support available

To ensure a smooth transition, IT Training is offering drop-in learning lab proctor opportunities through Dec. 13 at Mountain Vista Medical Center (1301 S Crimson Road, Mesa). Labs operate 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.

The learning labs offer:

  • Hands-on guidance with Epic navigation
  • Practice opportunities in the playground environment
  • Access verification
  • Support for auxiliary systems including:
    • mModal: Voice recognition dictation system for efficient clinical documentation.
    • Haiku: Mobile Epic application for secure patient data access on smartphone. Epic Secure Chat messaging is available only via Haiku for mobile phones or Canto for iPads.
    • Tiger Text: HIPAA-compliant secure messaging platform for clinical communication.
    • Imprivata: Single sign-on and electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) authentication system.
  • System personalization support

Implementation schedule

Current implementation timeline:

  • Dec. 5: Florence and East Mesa Emergency Clinic
  • Dec. 16: Mountain Vista Medical Center
  • Tempe Medical Center: Date to be determined

On-site support

Our IT Training and Clinical Informatics teams are providing on-site support during go-live at each facility. Extended support will be available through February 2025 via [email protected] (excluding weekends).

Stay ahead of the curve

We strongly encourage all physicians to utilize the learning lab opportunities before go-live to ensure a successful transition. Leadership will receive regular updates on training completion status.
