Epic and IT Notes

Over the last few months, our informatics team as well as the IT/Epic analysts were recognized in national conferences for their work in making our system function at a high level. Informatics nurses Stephanie Zebehazy, Kelley Akey, Helen Bates, Margaret Ewald, and Karen Roth were recognized by the American Nursing Informatics Association for their article on Giving Back Time: A Rapid Nurse Efficiency Project to Reduce Admission Documentation Burden, which was the most impactful article in 2022. EMR analysts Sadie Tedder, Leslie Pitzen, Malia Simmons, Jessica Rivera, Brandy Fallin-Brostad, Daniel Noel, Mike Reno, Mandy Cirigliano, Nick Hadorn, Kim Simmonsen, Jennifer Everson, and Meredith Dix presented their work at the Epic Expert Group Meeting (XGM) in front of an international audience. These are great examples of the work that goes on in the background of our system that usually goes unrecognized. Recognizing that there is much more to be done, these and other staff members are striving to make our instance of Epic work to the best of its and our ability.

HS Troponin

The new high sensitivity troponin has rolled out at JCL campus and soon will be at Deer Valley and Sonoran Crossing, followed by the Osborn, Shea, and Thompson Peak Campuses. If anyone notices any issues with the ordering or displaying of results that could be optimized or made clearer please let us know right away.

Order set Reviews and optimization

Order set reviews and modifications continue to occur and the changes to the pain management order set will be made even in those order sets not scheduled to be reviewed. The opioid steering committee has made network wide optimizations of the pain management order set in order to comply with regulations as well as to achieve safer medication practices for our patients. Desired changes to network wide pain management order sets should be direct to the opioid stewardship committee and not the analyst for your domain or department.

Preference labs

IT training will once again be scheduling regular preference labs in order to help all of our users of Epic better optimize their experience with the EMR. Please look for the upcoming dates and sign up while there is still space.
