Epic and informatics updates

  NewsEditor      Epic and technology

The informatics team has multiple projects intended to assist with efficiency of use of the EMR and other technology in delivering care. We spent a week at HonorHealth Medical Group Bethany Home – Primary and Urgent Care to evaluate their workflows, provide tips and advice, as well as to train our own team on how to improve ourselves. We plan to visit other clinics as well as inpatient units where we could shadow all providers, and provide input on efficiencies of practice and better use of tools. We will leverage the efficiency measures provided by Epic on what they call “Signal Data,” which can be made available to all physicians and providers. You will first need to obtain an Epic Userweb account, then click on “Signal” and request access.

Here is an example of signal data.

Epic has efficiency courses as well.

We also encourage and support everyone to consider becoming a PowerUser, or ultimately a Physician Builder, so we can all learn how to maximize our use of Epic tools.

We also need more physicians to participate in our Physician Advisory Group meetings, which are currently held at 4 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of every month. This is the meeting where we decide which changes to take on upgrades, which order set changes should be made, and general cool things that could be and are happening with our own instance of Epic. It is an important meeting for HonorHealth Medical Staff members to voice their concerns over proposed changes or to propose changes of their own.

Please contact Craig Norquist [email protected] if you are interested in becoming a PowerUser, Physician Builder or participating in the Physician Advisory Group meetings.

Anyone who has access to Epic or a network connection should have an HonorHealth email address as well. Many physicians choose not to use it or are unaware that it exists. To access your HonorHealth email, find the link on HonorHub Employee Resources >> More Quick Links >> Office 365 (Email). If you are on campus, you will use your same username (add @honorhealth.com) and password that you use for Epic or network login.

Unfortunately, for security reasons, we cannot set up forwarding of HonorHealth email to other addresses. HonorHealth email is considered secure and HIPAA compliant, and often there is confidential information being sent that we cannot have sent outside the network. If you do not plan on using your HonorHealth email often, some have created automatic messaging to alert other users to not send email to that address but to use their alternate email address instead. Below are instructions on how to set that up.

Then, make sure you click save to apply your changes.
