We’re excited to share that starting Monday, June 16, neonatology physicians and nurse practitioners from Phoenix Children’s will provide neonatal care physician services and oversee newborn hearing services at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea and Sonoran Crossing medical centers. They’ll also care for well newborns at Sonoran Crossing Medical Center.

This team already provides newborn care at Mountain Vista Medical Center, so they know what it takes to deliver exceptional care. With this expansion, all three of our NICUs will be under the medical direction of Suganya Kathiravan, MD, bringing expertise and consistency across our network.

Here’s what makes this collaboration even stronger: the neonatal team will also be supported by Phoenix Children’s physicians from ophthalmology, cardiology, anesthesia and pediatric surgery. This means we can provide the best possible care for our premature infants while creating a smoother transition for our NICU graduates into the specialty clinics that Phoenix Children’s offers.

There’s more good news. The current pediatric hospitalists at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center will join the hospitalist division at Phoenix Children’s and continue to staff the pediatric unit and see all newborns at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center. The pediatric program will continue under the leadership of Luis Perez, MD.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Matthew Abrams, MD, and his team from Pediatrix for their many years of excellent leadership and clinical service to our NICU patients and families. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

This partnership strengthens our ability to care for the smallest and most vulnerable patients in our community. Together, we’re building a deeply personalized care model that supports the best outcomes possible.

Let’s give a warm welcome to our new Phoenix Children’s physicians and APPs — we’re honored to have them join the HonorHealth medical staff and community.
