WPLC: Celebrating milestones for women in the workforce
By: Julie Crichton, MD, FASA, medical director for the HonorHealth Women Physicians Leadership Council (WPLC)
This summer we welcomed HonorHealth women residents and fellows to the Women Physicians Leadership Council (WPLC). We are thrilled to welcome them to HonorHealth and the HonorHealth Women Physicians Leadership Council (WPLC). With almost 800 women physicians across our six-hospital system, we have an extensive list of possible mentors and sponsors and want to extend our hands, hearts, and minds to support them. We are excited and proud to have so many women physician residents and fellows join our community.

Our next event for the women residents and fellows will be Thursday, Sept 12 after grand rounds near Osborne. Look for details announcing soon here (must be on the HonorHealth intranet to access this page).
History and celebration:
In 1920, the certification of the 19th Amendment guaranteed women the constitutional right to vote, laying the foundation for gender equality and serving as an example of a working democracy for the world to see and a harbinger of women’s liberation under the law. Women’s Equality Day, celebrated annually on Aug. 26, commemorates this pivotal moment in history.
Since then, we have continued to rally together for equal rights for women. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 were crucial in combating pay discrimination and workplace discrimination based on gender and race. These landmark legislations ensure that women of any background cannot be denied equal pay for equal work.
As we celebrate the contributions and achievements of women in the workforce and especially women in healthcare, it is essential to recognize these significant milestones that have shaped gender equality for all women in the U.S. and applaud the momentous push for women’s equality and liberation movements around the world. These milestones help remind us to reflect on the ongoing progress toward gender equality and underscores the importance of continuing to support and celebrate our education and our freedoms. Thank you to our brilliant women in the workforce, particularly the millions of contributions from our innovative and creative women leaders and luminaries, physicians, scientists, assistants, nurses, administrators, engineers and technicians who are steadfast and determined to play a crucial role in our healthcare, advocate for women’s rights and deliver compassionate care.
Thank you for remembering these proud moments in our history and celebrating with WPLC!
