The 2024 HonorHealth Women Physicians Leadership Council (WPLC) is a vibrant community comprising more than 780 dynamic women physicians. Since our inception after COVID-19, we have updated lactation spaces and policies, and provided many fun and engaging networking opportunities.

Each spring, we proactively fundraise through keynote educational speakers. Our past three speakers have been:

• Arghavan Salles, MD, Ph.D., on gender stereotypes.
• Anna Lembke, MD, discussing addictions and her book “Dopamine Nation.”
• Tait Shanafelt, MD, on organizational solutions to professional wellbeing.

We have also supported our network of women physicians with discussions in the fall season with our chiefs and champions at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center in 2021; our women’s advocacy at Scottsdale Thompson Peak Medical Center’s healing gardens in 2022; and a chat with our CEO Todd LaPorte regarding Blue Zones and the power of nine at the HonorHealth John C. Lincoln campus in 2023.

In addition, we have helped provide access to educational and leadership opportunities through Academic Affairs and the University of Arizona Eller Executive Education program; leadership opportunities for young aspiring leaders with John Pope, MD, and the Physicians Leadership Program; and this year, with Stephen Swensen, MD, and the Arizona Wellbeing Collaborative’s program, Leading with Kindness.

Last but not least, we presented our inaugural Trailblazer Award to Shalini Singh-Karnik, MD, an integrative medicine physician. This award was created to recognize an outstanding and innovative HonorHealth woman physician that goes above and beyond as a trailblazer for the network.
