Changes to high-sensitivity troponin testing
An update from Craig Norquist, MD, chief medical information officer and Nina Shah, DO, chief quality and clinical value officer:
HonorHealth is transitioning to a single standardized chemistry lab assay for high-sensitivity troponin testing for suspected cardiac events. This change will ensure acute coronary syndrome patients are diagnosed and treated appropriately and improve myocardial infarction (MI) diagnostic accuracy.
In 2018, the FDA approved high-sensitivity troponin assays, as they are better at diagnosing MI due to their higher sensitivity, greater precision and moderate specificity. Additionally, manufacturers will no longer support conventional troponin machines.
All HonorHealth medical centers will transition on the following schedule*:
- LIVE – HonorHealth John C. Lincoln Medical Center
- LIVE – HonorHealth Sonoran Crossing Medical Center
- LIVE – HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center
- LIVE – HonorHealth Thompson Peak Medical Center
- LIVE – HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center
- Tuesday, March 12, 2024 – HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center
