HonorHealth update

HonorHealth diabetic retinopathy champions

This year, HonorHealth Medical Group has expanded our diabetic retinopathy screening program in Primary Care. We are now screening patients in 12 practices with plans to grow.

By using a handheld device, our Primary Care offices are revolutionizing how our patients receive care.  Using AI guidance to capture images of a patient’s retina, a cloud-based system will allow trained ophthalmologists to review. Within 24 hours, results are retuned to Epic for the PCP to review.

Through this screening process, we have been able to find 14% of our patients with changes associated with diabetic retinopathy. They were screened quickly, easily and referred faster than with traditional methods. Just this year, 16 patients were identified on screenings at our Primary Care offices as having vision-threatening severity.

To recognize our excellent medical assistant and operational team members, every month a stand-out practice is presented our Traveling Trophy. Our first winners were the team at Thompson Peak.  That was followed by Jomax and Saguaro. (See pictures below)
